At the Denver Tennis Park (DTP), we believe in the power of tennis to bring people together, foster community, and provide young people with the tools they need to thrive—on and off the court. That's why our ongoing partnership with Denver Public Schools (DPS) is so important. Together, we’re committed to increasing access to tennis for students across the district, particularly in under-invested schools, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to experience the lifelong benefits that the sport offers.
Partnership in Action
At the heart of this partnership is a commitment to expanding access to tennis for Denver Public Schools students. DPS currently fields 16 competitive boys' and girls' tennis teams across nine high schools, and DTP plays an essential role in supporting these teams. Throughout the academic year, we partner closely with DPS coaches to provide a dedicated space for practices, matches, and tournaments.
But our reach extends beyond high school athletes. Through our Advantage Kids program, we’ve worked hand-in-hand with DPS educators to introduce tennis to elementary, middle, and high school students across the city. By providing equipment, trained coaches, and a welcoming space to learn, DTP aims to inspire the next generation of players while emphasizing the physical and mental wellness benefits that come with the game. Whether they’re picking up a racket for the first time or already honing their skills, DTP is helping to foster a love of tennis and creating new pathways for students to engage in this lifelong sport.
A State Championship Stage at DTP
In May 2024, the Denver Tennis Park had the honor of hosting the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) Girls Team Tennis State Championships, where the top teams in 5A, 4A, and 3A divisions battled it out in the finals. The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement as we welcomed some of the best high school tennis talent in the state to our courts. Families and fans cheered from the sidelines and tuned in online, as we live-streamed the matches to ensure everyone could experience the thrill of championship tennis, no matter where they were.
Now, we're gearing up for another milestone event. Beginning October 17, 2024, the DTP will welcome the CHSAA Boys Individual (5A, Oct. 17-19) and Team State Championships (4A and 5A, Oct. 22). It’s going to be a fantastic showcase of high school talent, and we encourage everyone to come out and support these young athletes. Admission is free, so mark your calendars and join us for memorable days of competitive tennis. Matches will also be streamed for those who cannot make it!
Looking Ahead
As we continue to work alongside DPS, we’re excited about the future of tennis in Denver. With each new student who picks up a racket, we see the lasting impact of our partnership. We remain committed to expanding access, fostering a love of the game, and creating pathways for all students to thrive in tennis and beyond.
